Not Our Own Agenda
This month’s prayer theme is Ministry of Jesus. That is just what Hope Street is - an organization that is doing God’s ministry by His hands, by His work and not our own agendas. A unique part about Hope Street is God is able to use skills, talents and knowledge that His people have been gifted by Him to walk alongside individuals and families as each lives and learns inside this space.
As our Director of Community Relations, I will often connect with those interested in getting involved in some capacity. There tends to be this overarching desire to come in and help people. Don’t get me wrong, this is amazing! I am beyond grateful that there are so many willing to give of their time and be present here at Hope Street! However, you will sometimes see me give a little pushback - a reminder that this is a space that eliminates us and them. A space where , yes, God may be using you to do His work, but at the same time He has placed you here to do work in your own life. Here the teacher often becomes the student.
Lord, today I Iift up all those who have served at Hope Street and all those who will in the future. May you use each man, woman and child to do YOUR work. Lord, I just ask that your will flow through us and pour out into this community. I pray that we leave every one of our own agendas at the door. God I am just so thankful for all those you have brought to Hope Street - no matter what the circumstance, no matter what their history may be, God I just ask that you continue to work in each one of their lives - whether it be a staff member, board member, volunteer, member, donor…Lord may your presence be felt and be known.
Amen.
For those interested in getting to know Hope Street on a deeper level, I encourage you to join us at one of our upcoming Volunteer Trainings. These hour and a half long sessions allow you to dive deeper into the inner workings of the Greenhouse for People. For dates, topics and to RSVP, click here!
