We Remember

"The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me.’" Judges 7:2

We know the story, Gideon hiding in a wine press making flour so the Midian Marauders wouldn’t find him. An Angel shows up and speaks truth, “The Lord is with you mighty warrior”. That truth didn’t resonate with a man hiding to keep from getting beat up. But God wouldn’t get fleeced, and in the end, Gideon gathered an army and went to battle. Just one problem (for Gideon, not God) and it’s simply this; short memory. Today, Individualism, cancel culture, and recency bias have seemingly made memories meaningless, if not obsolete. We welcome two new members to our staff this week, Michelle and David. Both are already long time members of our community, mighty warriors in our battle against brokenness. But we want you to know, and we choose this addition to our staff as a moment to remember it isn’t because of our strength that we will transform the 53206 into a vision of what heaven looks like, here on earth. God does that, and crazy as it is, He invites us to join the battle. So please reach out and welcome David (david@hopestreetministry.org) and Michelle (michelle@hopestreetministry.org)as they have accepted the invitation to join us. Please pray for our memories to remind us He is with us, we are His beloved, and that is enough. Father thank you for calling this team together at Hope Street. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to see ourselves as part of something much larger than ourselves. We know it is not our strength that will accomplish all you have in mind and yet we know we each have roles that you have equipped us for and we bless you as we do our best to live into those realities. For your glory, in your power, and by your Spirit, we remember you. Amen.
